Let´s keep in touch: Mapping the periphery

Let's keep in touch: Mapping the periphery

The project title refers to the need to keep contact with the relationships that are always created, and too often lost, in the new territories in which we live.

The Las periféricas collective has embroidered three maps of three peripheral territories outside three different cities in Europe where the Colombian artists of the collective currently reside: Coburg, in Bavaria; Ripollet, in Barcelona; and Älta in Stockholm. We are navigating in the communitarian aspect of our ancestral communities, supporting as women in a process of migration, recovering our roots through the act of embroidering, talking, caring together but in this case as a virtual meeting every Monday at 6:00 pm.

Keep in touch is a plea for connection, for recognition and for a body’s belonging to a defined territory.

The embroideries are ritualistic, rhythmic acts, performed simultaneously, in an attempt to fixate and preserve the identities and memories that continually unravel throughout a life of migration.
